Guilt

Guilt (2017)
Media Arts Installation
Alberta University of the Arts

A television resting on a pile of sand illuminates shards of glass in the dark. On its screen glass shatters on a tile floor rhythmically, but out of sync to its electronified sound, only to reassemble itself and shatter again in a continuous loop. Two chairs, one child sized, stand, equidistant from the television, framing the work.

The installation, "Guilt" uses the implied time span of sand to glass and the implied lifespan of Child to Adult to explore the ubiquity of guilt. Like sharp fragments of past events underlying all relationships, and continually replaying in memory, guilt remains with the individual wherever she goes, affecting relationships, thoughts and actions. It is a permanent fixture of the past, and unalterable.
