In dialogue with "Guilt," the installation, "Conservation" extends the metaphor of television as memory or psyche, to suggest the process of finding a resolution. Three televisions compartmentalize the allure and agony of glass. On the first screen, a hand reaches into a clutter of shards, finding the courage to select one. On the second screen, the hand touches and explores the sharpness and beauty of the glass object. On the third screen, the hand arranges each piece of glass in an orderly fashion. The sound heard mixes the clink of delicate objects being moved and handled, with soft weeping; for resolving past guilt is a painful, if healing process.
